Ok so I'm turning 30 next Saturday (April 7). Don't even get me started on where the years have gone because I have no earthly idea. I'm feeling the older generation (shudder to think I'm closer to this demographic than I care to admit) when they say time flies. But all age related complaining aside, I'm happy that I've gotten this far. Like they say...I wouldn't give nothin' for the journey.
Anyway, I've started a new self re-imaging campaign--Bless Becomes Bootylicious. I'm getting back in shape, taking better care of myself (never more needed than now since the middle age spread isn't too far off), learning (and applying) beauty tips, going to the spa at least once a month and keeping this fabulous, glorious head of natural hair (mine of course) healthy. I'm proud to say my mental health is up to par, regardless of what anyone else says. I'm really looking forward to this journey not to mention the transformation---from Tomboy to Tomcat...rrrrarrr (yes, I know...a very pitiful attempt at a cat's growl). Only thing is...I wonder why turning 30 is a such a big deal that it incites change? Don't worry, I'll keep you posted on the journey, including before, during and after pics.
Oh and before I forget (hush, no age related jokes) the post image is a painting called "Bootylicious" by Harlem Artist Nicole Folkes. Check her out. This Sis is bad!

Pac Man-ing Your Mind...For Knowledge
What exactly does Pac Man-ing your mind mean? It means gobbling up whatever's in your path. (Yep that little saying is protected by copyright). For the life of me, I will never understand how people (especially us natural hair, nappyheads) say they want knowledge and understanding but when it's given to them...or directed towards them they run like a bat out of hell. I frequent a site called afrobella...I'm telling you Sis is on point! I learn something new from every post. Today, she has a post talking about the Jamaican Maroons and as of 5p today there are only about 15-16 comments. Now yesterday, she was talking about negativity in sisterhood stemming from a couple discussions. That post received a whopping 61 comments at last check. Now I'm not saying that we shouldn't vent about sisterhood, but c'mon I KNOW more than half the folks that commented yesterday have gone back to the site today. Now here she is giving many of us a bit of knowledge and putting us on the path to learn a little more about this rebel slave group and we just can't seem to gobble it up. It just boggles my mind that we run from knowledge and embrace negativity. Something is seriously wrong with that picture.
The Few, The Proud, The Nappy
I'll keep this first post short and sweet since I plan on doing a whole lot of "mouth running" over the course of this blog's life. With that said, the motto of this blog pretty much sums up what's going down here. Those of you who've embraced your "nappyness" (or at least pretend to) know that while this is one of the most freeing choices you can make, it's also one of the hardest and most controversial. As you read my thoughts (entertaining, always truthful, contemplative and the occasional vent and pity trip) I hope you'll add your own .02cents. Of course that adds up!
And the Napps Up! motto is:
Being nappy is an adventure...are you kinked enough?
